What is Photosynthesis?

Photosynthesis is like a recipe plants use to make their own food using sunlight. It’s pretty amazing how they can turn light into energy! Imagine you're baking a cake. You need a few ingredients: flour, sugar, eggs, and some heat from the oven. In photosynthesis, plants gather their ingredients too: sunlight, carbon dioxide from the air, and water from the soil. When they mix these together, they create food (in the form of glucose) and release oxygen as a bonus! Here’s how it works step by step: 1. **Sunlight**: Plants have a special green pigment called chlorophyll that captures sunlight. 2. **Water**: They take in water from the soil through their roots. 3. **Carbon Dioxide**: Plants absorb carbon dioxide from the air through tiny openings in their leaves called stomata. 4. **Energy Conversion**: Using sunlight, plants mix the water and carbon dioxide to create glucose (a type of sugar) and oxygen. 5. **Release Oxygen**: The oxygen is released back into the air, which is great for us because we need it to breathe!
